I think there's this feeling around research that the word sensitive and sharing can't go together. But in fact, a lot of the questions that surround ethics do so in the context of a document produced by the NHMRC, which is the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. It's been around for a few years and it's the set of guidelines under which
all of the ethics committees around universities and other research bodies... and it almost has me feeling that it's unethical not to share your data. Gathering data imposes a burden on participants and burden equals risk to some extent.
And of course, as long as you can minimize the risk of that sharing, then it's encouraged.
