It started with setting up a partnership PhD program between Technische Universität of Berlin (Germany) and Escuela Politecnica Nacional (Ecuador) supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). A major turning point for an improvement in the situation of Applied Mathematics in Ecuador was getting a funded research project "Simulation of the Glyphosate Aerial Spray Drift at the Ecuador - Colombia border". We briefly discuss the goals, results, difficulties and achievements of the project and how this helped to change situation of Applied Mathematics in Ecuador."
