Im Raum verteilte Gegenstände gleicher wirklicher Größe (aufgerichtete Spielkarten), die Kontakt mit der Grundebene (Tischtuch) haben, werden, gleich wo sie sich befinden, im selben Verhältnis vom Horizont abgeschnitten. Diese Invarianz wurde 1435 von L. B. Alberti als Eigenschaft des richtig konstruierten Bildes mitgeteilt. Das Kriterium gilt, wie gezeigt wird, solange die optische Achse, grundebenenparallel, in der Waage liegt.

A horizon marked by a row of points in the camera compendium rises and falls with the camera eye point. Objects of the same real size distributed in the room (upright playing cards) that are in contact with the ground plane (tablecloth) are cut off in the same proportion from the horizon, regardless of where they are. This invariance was communicated by L. B. Alberti in 1435 as a property of the correctly constructed image. The criterion applies, as shown, as long as the optical axis, parallel to the ground plane, lies in the balance.
