Abstract

There are two objects of the same size, projective and real, one of which, held up invisibly, hovers over the ground. This raised object "appears at the point where its edge hides the texture of the sub-surface. At the same time, it appears further away and larger than it actually is." The depth indication of the relative proximity to the horizon has an effect here. The IWF demonstration (objects also cardboard rectangles, ground plane checkered tablecloth) adds continuous changes in the projective height to Gibson's static original, which are seen as a displacement of the object on the ground plane.
