Abstract |
A female carries her about 3-week old pup by the scarf of its neck from a sun-exposed to a more shaded site. The female's yearling follows the two. Later on he is shown sucking on the female's left frontal teat. The female repeatedly mildly threatend the yearling who responds by submissive calling and attacking its little sibling. Occasionally both suck simultaneously, the pup always on the frontal teat, the yearling on the teat further back. He tries time and again to chase the pup away from the mother. The mother defends her pup only weakly but gives pup attraction calls to induce it to return. Her attracks against the yearling are very much inhibited. He thus sometimes gaines access to her teats from one side, while the pup searches in wane for teats along the mother's back.
