The sex partners already start caring for the brood during spawning. Male and/or female stand by the eggs and fan it; this ensures a supply of fresh, oxygen-rich water, an essential necessity for the development of the larvae. About two days after spawning, the parents remove the eggs from their bed and place them in a hollow, where, shortly afterwards, the larvae hatch. A few days later, the young can swim and form a school under the parents. As they get older, the school disperses and spreads throughout the tank. The parents attack everything, and protect the children.
