The motorfunction of the healthy gullet is explained and shown by X-ray cinematography. Disorders of the gullet are defined, and their pathological function is shown in an X-ray picture. The following diseases are discussed individually: oesophagus when right position of aorta is high; for aorta lusoria; course of the gullet when the left auricle is enlarged; displacement of the gullet by fibrothorax; idiopathic dilatation; cardiospasm; congenital stenosis; cicatricial stenosis from lye erosion; Zenker's diverticulum; functional diverticulum; diverticulum in the lower third of the gullet; epiphrenal diverticulum; varices of the gullet; dislodging of the gullet by mediastinal tumour; benign tumour of the gullet; carcinoma of the gullet; anti-thoracic oesophagus.
