In a connected series of three films on the visual perception of movement, selected examples serve to illustrate that the movement seen ("visual") differs to a greater of lesser extent from the actual ("physical") movement, according to the particular circimstances, so that they cannot be simply identified with one another. The relevant natural laws are also mentioned. The first film of this series deals with the thresholds of movement, i. e. the upper and lower limits of speed for distinguishing a movement. It then goes on to treat the importance of the contours of a moving object to the visual perception of movement and direction of movement. Finally it goes into more complex movements and their spontaneous disintegration into simple, "natural" components.
