Die ausreichende und gleichzeitig wirtschaftliche Kühlung der Zylinder luftgekühlter Motoren setzt eine geeignete Führung der Kühlluft am Zylinder voraus. Der Nachweis für die Notwendigkeit dieser Luftführung wird an Hand von Versuchen im Rauchkanal erbracht, bei denen die Kühlluftströmung in der Verrippung von Flugmotorenzylindern bei verschiedenen Arten der Luftführung sichtbar gemacht wird.
