After clearance by means of fire by the men, the new arable ground is tilled with the digging stick. The women set pieces of manioc twigs in the turned up soil; ananas and banana shoots are planted and their fruits, grown ripe, harvested by the women and carried home in baskets. The film also shows the weeding dine by the women, and the ritual aspect of cultivation is indicated by the appearance of a drummer.
