Das Amerikanische Zwergsultanshuhn hat sich mittels seiner langen Zehen die Schwimmblätter von Seerosen als Lauffläche und Nahrungsquelle erschlossen. Es nimmt nicht nur Insekten von der Oberfläche der Blätter ab, sondern wendet den Blattrand mit dem Schnabel um, hält ihn durch Darauftreten nieder und sucht die Blattunterseite nach Nahrung ab.

The film shows that the American Purple Gallinule has, due to its long toes, taken over the leaves of water lilies as path and source of food. It does not only remove the insects from the leaves upper surface but turns the edge of the leaf with its bill holds this down with its claw and searches the under side for food.
