Abstract

In order to dry his feathers, which are not waterproof, the Anhinga anhinga lies in the sun with feathers spread. When swimming only the head and neck are above the surface of the water. Fish caught are thrown into the air and caught again in such a way that they can be swallowed head first. This skill is practised with twigs.
