English | English The film documents locomotion and reproduction in Lieberkühnia wageneri (Rhizopoda, Testacea). The introductory scenes depict some animals with darkfield illumination during emission of rhizopodia. Parts of an outgrowing and an expanded rhizopodial network are then viewed at higher magnification. Cytoplasmic granules and vacuoles flow within the rhizopodial strands in both directions. The transport of captured ciliates (Paramecium trichium) towards the cell body is associated with deformation and gradual ingestion of the food organisms. Lastly, cell division will be demonstrated, which, in the case of this multinucleate rhizopod, occurs as a multiple fission. |
