The film shows the overpowering and consumption of a Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) by an adult, male, Varanus dumerilii. The animal after three years of feeding in captivity has wide reaching experience with more than 100 mice, but very rarely, 2 or 3 times, with crabs. The feeding method displays itself as extremely purposeful and appears to be built-up to a great extent on inherited co-ordination, specifically designed to deal with the difficult prey, crabs. In a control test the overpowering and consumption of a mouse, the act of feeding display in a primarily stereotyped process, disfunction.
