English | English The film shows the cutting of soft polyvinylchloride (PVC) by means of a cutting apparatus operating in principle along the line of a cutter of the type used to cut continuous lengths of material into pieces of substantially uniform size. The parameters affecting the cutting operation are varied and include, along others, chip thickness and chip height, cutting angle and lip angle and the clearance angle reuslting from these two, the gap between the blade and counterblade, and the cutting speed. The deformation present in the material during the cutting operation is rendered visible by a grid pattern (raster) applied to the material prior to cutting. It is apparent from the shots that the cut shown is a knife-type cut within the range of the parameters investigated. Close-ups show the entry and severance processes. |
