English | English The film shows the process of chip formation on a polished and etched specimen of C 45 W 3 unalloyed tool steel. The various phenomena of chip formation and the individual deformation processes can be observed particularly well in the perlitic-ferritic structure of the material. The central significance to the cutting process of the factor "cutting speed" becomes particularly evident in the build-up of material on the cutting edge which increase more and more at cutting speeds in the range of 5 to 60 metres per minute and in concequence fundamentally alters the cutting conditions at the cutting edge. the shape, size, and also the formation mechanism of such build-up are varied and unusual according to hitherto customary views. |
