Locomotion of mobile strains of Proteus on moist surfaces (swarming) and in fluid media is shown. Their behaviour at lower and higher population density and in different thickness of fluid layers is examined. Special photographs make the organs and mechanisms of locomotion clearly visible. The results of quantitative evaluation are described in detail in the accompanying text.
