Die Verteilung der Zooxanthellen markiert Mund und Anlagen der 6 primären Gastralsepten. Die Fußscheibe beginnt mit der Abscheidung des Kalkskeletts, das zunächst 6, dann 12 und schließlich 24 Sklerosepten besitzt. Gleichzeitig werden Polypententakel ausgebildet. Nach etwa 20 Tagen hat der Primärpolyp die Basalplatte vergrößert und durch extratentakuläre Knospung Tochterpolypen gebildet. Auf diese Weise entwickeln sich im Laufe von mehreren Jahren große, aufrechte Kolonien mit Hunderten von Polypen.
