Erpobdella octoculata (Hundeegel), Piscicola geometra (Fischegel), Theromyzon tessulatum (Entenegel). Theromyzon betreibt Brutpflege.

The film contains characteristic scenes of the reproduction biology of three well-konwon European leeches. First transfer of spermatophores, than formation and deposition of a cocoon with eggs is shown in Erpobdella octoculata. Likewise in Piscicola geometra, copulation with exchange of spermatophores and cocoon deposition were filmed. In Theromyzon tessulatum direct sperm transfer through the female genital pore is preceded by an extensive courtship display. This leech places its body over the cocoons; the juveniles, after hatching, are then sheltered by holding on to the ventral side of the parent.
