Abstract Juvenile Schützenfische spucken einen Wasserstrahl auf die Beutetiere, die sich bis ca. 30 cm hoch über der Wasseroberfläche befinden. Herabfallende Fliegen werden gefressen. Wenn die Beute nicht getroffen wird oder nicht auf das Wasser fällt, wird der Spuckvorgang mehrmals wiederholt. Auch im Sprung aus dem Wasser versuchen die Schützenfische Insekten zu erbeuten. Mit Zeitdehnung.
Juvenile archerfish spit a jet of water at their prey, which are located up to approximately 30 cm above the water's surface. Falling flies are eaten. If the prey is not hit or does not fall on the water, the spitting process is repeated several times. The archerfish also attempt to catch insects while jumping out of the water. With slow motion photography.
