The tower on the Münden town wall was used as a shot tower until the year 1983. The lead was melted in the top of the tower. Foam forms on the liquid lead. The shot caster fills the foam into the casting sieve and tamps it down. He then pours the molten lead through the sieve. This drips from the bottom of the sieve and forms balls of molten material (shown with a 20-fold time yield). These drops fall 40 meters into a tub filled with water. The shot is then dried on a hotplate. After the shot has been poured onto an angled surface the round and non-round shot are separated. The round shot is sorted into sizes by means of sieving through a machine.
