Convection during thunderstorms caused by heat leads to an ascension of the clouds with the formation of a cirrus shield, an overshooting top; ambos forms result from wind shearing. Explanations in an animated movie and an extensive interpretation of characteristic time-lapse shots made by geostationary weather satellites in the visible and infrared light spectra.
