A measuring procedure for analysing the dynamic behaviour of a machine tool structure is presented with the aid of an example of a vertical turning machine. The first part of the film deals with the measurement of the resonance frequencies and the compliances at the cutting point. The procedure for measuring the mode shapes using the method of computer aided Modal Analysis and the results obtained are shown in the second part of the film. Special emphasis is laid on the vibrating mode shapes displayed on CRT.
