Abstract Mitochondrien aus Gewebekulturzellen von Kaulquappenherzen des Krallenfrosches Xenopus laevis zeigen bei leichter Zeitraffung lebhafte Bewegung und Formveränderung. Sie teilen sich und verschmelzen miteinander, eine Tatsache, die genetisch bedeutsam ist, da sie die Rekombination der mitochondrialen DNA fördert.
Mitochondria from cultured heart cells isolated from amphybian (Xenopus lalvis) tadpoles show vigorous movement and changes in shape. They divide and fuse with one another - a genetically important observation strongly suggesting the recombination of mitochondrial DNA.
