The film taken in a tank shows the breeding behaviour of Haplochromis burtoni, a female mouth-breeder. The female carries the young in her mouth. As soon as they are are able to swim they are released in groups. At the first sign of danger or alarm and also at night they return into the mother's mouth. When the female gathers the young in the mouth she takes on a characteristic contrast colouring of the head.
