Für das von Graphitlamellen durchzogene perlitische Gefüge ist die Reißspanbildung typisch. Kleinere und negative Spanwinkel sowie zunehmende Schneidenradien erhöhen die Druckbeanspruchung und damit die plastische Werkstoffverformung an der Spanwurzel. Daraus ergibt sich ein zunehmend stahlähnlicheres Zerspanverhalten. Geringe Zeitdehnung.

The film shows the process of chip formation on a polished and etched or etch-polished specimen of GG 20 lamellar cast iron. The formation of tear chips is typical of this material whose perlitic structure is shot through with graphite lamellae. Smaller and negative rake angles as well as increasing radii at the cutting edge increase the compressive strain and hence the plastic deformation of the material in the chip root, especially in the tool contact zones. This results in an increasingly steel-like cutting behaviour which has a corresponding effect on the cut surface.
