Machining process during the turning of tool-steel C 45 W 3 with carbide tipped tools. The work sample was machined longitudinally and vertically, the process being clearly filmed at normal speed, and with several magnified shots with a slow-down of 330. The change in machining thickness (0,05 to 0,8 mm) in the individual film shots shows the effect on the end shape and the processes at the cutting point with particular attention being paid to the lamellar structure, the cutting surface or cutting area, and the pickup on the cutting edge.
