Using an airglow imager from OH channel (715–930 nm) at the Southern Space Observatory (SSO; 29.44°S, 53.82°W) in southern Brazil, extreme mesospheric concentric gravity waves (CGWs) were observed on 17–18 September 2023. These CGWs persisted for over 10 hours, marking the longest-duration event ever recorded, and were associated with fast-propagating severe thunderstorms. The maximum airglow brightness perturbations exceeded 24%, indicating intense momentum deposition into the mesosphere. The wave center moved more than 400 km. |
