This animated bar chart shows the growth of DataCite DOIs over time, categorized according to their resource type and to the metadata schema version in which they were first introduced. The chart includes only DOIs that are discoverable through DataCite's public API using the following API request: https://api.datacite.org/dois?registered=20XX from 2004 to 18 October 2023. Please note that some resource types may appear earlier in the timeline than their inclusion in the schema, as this is based on the DOI registration date and metadata can be updated retroactively to use the new schema. In addition, the chart begins with schema version 2.0 because this was the first version implemented in DataCite services.
