Abstract
Vector tile map is now industry standard and general-purpose schema is available on OpenMapTiles project. But if the features that people focus on in your own country are different from the default schema? We developed styles to cover and highlight Japanese authentic geographic attributes such as railways, hot springs, and religious facilities with an improved OpenMapTiles schema. The styles are available on MapTiler Cloud as MIERUNE styles globally. In the process, we developed some useful tools for vector tile styling. One is a style-competing tool that makes it cartographers easy to compare two versions of styles interactively. Another is a kind of style management tool using git that visualizes diff of style.json and takes screenshots automatically. Structured approaches of planning and implementation of vector tile styling are not much shared. In this talk, we will speak about how to enrich the styles for your own country and enhance the styling process for vector tile cartographers.

All right, so hello, everyone. Thank you for being here today. I'm going to talk about enriching styles and enhancing the sign process for open map tiles. So firstly, just as a brief self-introduction, I'm Patrick Yoon, a sales engineer at Miyarune, which is a company that's based in Japan. So at Miyarune, we develop QGIS plugins,
and we also develop other web map solutions with the MapLibre framework, as we are one of the sponsors of MapLibre, and we're also a member of OSGO Japan. So today, I'm going to talk about Miyarune Style, which is a vector map style that we have developed, and also the tools that we have made
in order to develop our custom map style. So firstly, Miyarune Style, it is a vector map style that was originally developed for use in Japan in order to enhance the user experience of Japanese map users, and it is now available on Map Tower Cloud as JP Miyarune Dark, Gray, and Streets.
So this is a sample of the map style that we have developed. So we have made differentiations between told roads and other roads that are free to use, and we have also added multi-language displays and support so that both Japanese and English labels
are displayed on our maps. And as unlike perhaps France or Germany, there are a lot of mountains in Japan, we have added hillshades to our map style so that everything looks nice. So other than that, we also believe that our map style is very easy to use in other parts of the world, as well as we have added increased displays
for public transport, and there are also very colorful icons that our designer designed. So onto the tools that we have made to create our custom vector map style. So the first tool that we have made is one that we have made using Maputnik
that reflects the changes that are made to the style.json file in real time. So for example, after getting the server started and having my browser window open, I can basically just change the style.json file so that perhaps all of the water services are read,
and then my browser window would basically just refresh itself and reflect all of the changes that I've made to the style.json folder, the style.json file. So other than that, the other tool that we have developed is one that uses playwrights to generate screenshots
of a predefined area automatically so that we can have a much easier time comparing between different vector map styles. So for example, after changing my style.json folder so that all water services are a lot bluer, I can basically just run this tool,
and then it will generate a picture for me and perhaps my boss who reviews my code to compare between different styles. So if any one of you here are interested in our map styles or the tools that we have developed for developing vector map styles, so please feel free to scan the QR code
or approach any of us with the polo shirt. We have actually also developed an interactive tool where users can compare between different map styles by themselves, so if you are interested in vector map styling or our map styles, also please definitely go check out our site.
Thank you.
