Abstract
This video contains the animations of seven finite element models of simplified subduction. The rheology implemented in the subducting slab varies between models: 1. constant viscosity of 10^23 Pas, 2: Diffusion creep only (Hirth and Kohlstedt, 2003), 3: Dislocation creep only, 4: Diffusion and Dislocation creep in parallel, 5: reduced grain size by one order of magnitude, 6: a reduced viscosity cap from 10^26 Pas to 1.3*10^24 Pas, and 7: Reduced grain size by 3 orders of magnitude. The video is published as supplemental material for "The influence of viscous slab rheology on numerical models of subduction" in EGU Solid Earth.
