Copilia mediterranea (Crustacea, Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Sapphyrinidae), length 5 mm, Lanzarote 3.2022. 0:52 min. The nearly completely transparent body of the genus Copilia is specialized by extremely large eyes with very big front lenses positioned apart from each other pointing forward. There is also a smaller posterior lens which shows an oscillatory movement. Between the lenses is the crystalline cone. The rhabdom in the central part of the body is bend by 90 degrees to the longitudinal plane. There is evidence that the eyes of Copilia are an optical scanning system.
