Abstract
A modeling framework of genome packing inside bacteriophage capsids is developed and tested. The main assumptions of the model are the chromonic columnar hexagonal structure of confined (ds)DNA and its high resistance to bending. The model has the capability to predict pressure and ejection force as well as the size of the disordered core. It also accounts for the phase transition from solid to fluid-like states as the concentration of DNA in the capsid decreases.
