Ensis directus (Mollusca, Bivalvia, Heterodonta, Pharidae), late veliger larva, length 620 µm, Sylt 11.2014. 0:48 min. This mussel invaded from North America about 1975 into the North Sea. Veliger larvae can be found in the plankton as late stages before settling in the substrate. They demonstrate the body plan of Bivalvia. Video can be used for teaching.
