Most people know SVG just as a format to show icons. Yet it is so much more: there exists a whole ecosystem like the amazing RAWgraphs (made by the Politecnico di Milano university), one of the best tools for infographics and described as the "missing link" between spreadsheets and graphics applications. This is an important focus area for one of Plone's core markets: universities and NGO's that need to present complex information into understandable visualizations, while still fulfilling requirements on accessibility. And hey, they can be animated! The current treatment of SVG in Plone (both classic and Volto) is far from optimal. I will try to make the case that we should do better, first by showing some of the magic you can do with SVG coupled with actual data residing in csv files or Plone-held data, and how this could be a distinguishing feature.
