Abstract
In the past few years, various initiatives have been taken to develop more responsible research assessment practices. Openness of research information is a crucial prerequisite for many of the envisioned reforms in research assessment. I will discuss the idea of an Open Knowledge Base, an infrastructure for open research information that has been proposed for research organizations in the Netherlands. I will also discuss initiatives that aim to promote openness of the metadata of scholarly outputs, such as the Initiative for Open Citations and the Initiative for Open Abstracts. Finally, I will demonstrate how the various developments contribute to improved research assessment practices.
