Abstract
I've been hearing and talking about IPv6 for at least the last 10 years, and I really believe in the technology. Over the course of time a lot has happened in IPv6 and the outlook keeps improving. However, in my position as trainer at one of the regional internet registries, when I start discussing IPv6, I often get a lot of questions revolving around "is it really happening? When do you think we will have it ?". This talk is meant to show that things are happening, and discusses what the present and the future look like. IPv6 is happening. Many countries are already in the double digit range of traffic percentage according to many sources, including the US. Some of these countries represent examples of virtue in the field, while some others are strange cases. This talk, while trying not to be too heavily technical, aims at showing that IPv6 is happening and silently getting into our lives, and there's a lot of data proving it. There are many different reasons it's now time to jump onboard the IPv6 train, and this talk will show them, pointing to cases where this has happened (and worked), while also discussing less successful stories, and presenting lots of data and technical pointers to show the reasons.
