Every time we search the Web, use our phone, read an email—or even turn on a light—we create data that businesses collect and use for decisions. As the exponential increase of data continues, it will likely continue to drive innovation and economic growth. But even as new data-driven experiences make life more convenient, big data could also work against individuals rather than for them—for instance, when a bank evaluates credit, or a potential employer decides on a hire.
