Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, we are here to discuss and exchange our ideas about open-source GIS for United Nations and developing countries.
00:22
First of all, I am greatly honored to hold this UN Land and Housing Cooperation Joint Seminar and to have Mr. Jeff McKenna, President of the USGEO, Mr. Eun Young-seung,
00:43
Chief of UN Geospatial Information Section, the eminent presenters, and all of the guests. I also thank our supporters and audience for attending this seminar. Initially, Korea Land and Housing Corporation and OSGEO had planned a seminar for supporting
01:08
developing countries with the open-source GIS. And now, I feel delighted very much because we host this seminar with United Nations support.
01:21
The open-source GIS is a far-reaching technology, particularly for developing countries. Now, they are becoming free from poverty, seeking sustainable economic development and better quality of life.
01:40
We know the UN Millennium Development Goals have showed clear directions and achieved positive changes. This year, UN is going to establish post-MDGs, namely the Sustainable Development Goals.
02:01
I think the open-source GIS is essential for achieving these goals. The SDGs and more than 300 indices, constantly measured and monitored by each country, require considerable cost.
02:22
The open-source GIS technology, I am sure, will contribute to produce creative solutions and to reduce the cost. Korea Land and Housing Corporation, LH, has carried out more than 600 land development projects for decades.
02:43
And we created built environment, most of our modern built environment in Korea. We are ready to share our experience and knowledge, especially geo-information knowledge, with developing countries.
03:02
LH started special big data research last year, applying GIS to building smart city models. And this year, LH mentioned a public land housing portal service based on the GIS system.
03:21
I think this seminar is very meaningful and appropriate. Once again, I would like to say a special thanks to Mr. Jeff Mckenna and Mr. Eun Gyung-soo for their great support. And I would like to thank the audience for attending this seminar as well.
03:42
I warmly welcome you all again, and I hope this seminar will be a meaningful stepstone to the cooperation of United Nations, developing countries, Korea and Land and Housing Corporation. Thank you.
