Abstract
First, we recall the successive steps of the task performed by a bibliography processor such as \BibTeX. Then we show how this modus operandi has been adapted by tools such as the packages \code{natbib}, \code{jurabib}, \code{biblatex}. We also explain the advantages and drawbacks of using other processors like Biber or Ml\BibTeX.
