The mole tunnels into the loose garden soil where it immediately begins to construct a tunnel close to the surface. The movements occuring during burrowing in the firm substrate are shown in slow-motion. Building of a branched tunnel system; construction of a downward sloping section of tunnel with soil compaction zone; transport of soil to the surface; creation of a mole-hill. Digging of a deep-lying horizontal tunnel section in hard earth. At the same time as the tunnel is being dug, the soil is examined for food. Soil compaction zone and transportation of soil from the tunnel.
