Ein Teil eines mit Niederwald bestockten Berghanges wird gerodet, die Schwendmasse zum Trocknen angelegt und Ende Juli verbrannt. Wenn der Brandacker (mundartlich "Brand") abgekühlt ist, wird er gereinigt; danach folgt die Aussaat von Winterroggen.

A hillslope, covered with scrub and young trees, is cleared. The underbrush is spread and dried to be set on fire at the end of July. After the burning the clearing (in local dialect "Brand") is cooling down and various relics are removed. Then follows the sowing of winter rye.
