The Tibetan New Year's festival was celebrated in Lhasa by numerous rituals and festivities, which in exile are performed only in a considerably simplified form. The film presents parts of an extensive ritual, the main part of which has taken place before in the temple. The sequences presented show the offering of thanks to the tutelary deities and the "release" of the deities returning to their respective spheres.
