English | English The film shows Polar Eskimos, fishing salmons through ice-holes on a frozen lake in the Thule-District. For fishing they use two different techniques: The first includes the use of a particular harpoon which is especially designed for that purpose. The fish is attracted by a bait, which was dropped down instead of fish-hook at a fishing rod. As soon as a fish appears, becoming visible through the hole, the Eskimo pushes down the harpoon to pierce the prey. The other method is comparable to the fishing with a spoon bait, which is known as modern fishing technique too. |
