Abstract

Lanzettfischchen.

Movements of the embryonics of Brachiostoma lanceolatum in and out of the egg sac. The first movements in the egg sac are noticed after gastrulation had finished. Each ectoderm cell had got a cilium. The movement is either a rotation through the body's long axis, or a turning through the body's cross axis. The rotation-movements and the ciliums are shown. The more the embryo stretches into length, the rotation through the body's long axis is prefered. After 24 hours, the embryo burst the egg sac while the rotation was faster and faster. The free embryos swim rotating in all directions. They only can swim forward. At the end of the embryonic development (after 48 hours), the embryo move by means of varying, for Branchiostoma typical snakelike movements or simple gliding forward.
