English | English This is a film about performance, and the fear of not being able to perform successfully. In Meena Bazar in old Delhi, the tenuous aspirations of men and boys are reflected in their faces as they cluster around Aslam's street stall to listen to his spiel about how to enhance male sexual performance. Near Aslam’s stalls is a school for wrestlers (akhara), where discipline and abstinence from impure sex are encouraged by the guru. In an adjacent tea shop, men appreciate storytelling that invokes the humorous and the fantastic, offering an escape from the dreariness of their daily lives. All of these men have, in their different ways, found a way to perform life's tasks in an insecure world. |
