changed I thought about my personal life of about 20 in almost 30 years ago I was finished my shoe will and and storage said to be a nurse in a hospital in germany you can choose in between going to the army or doing
some some kind of substitute so chosen the letter and was working as a as a nurse in a hospital in a commitment on in this area where I grew up so I was working there for 2 years at that time there was quite a long time to 2 years of work as a regular nurse are 6 o'clock in the morning getting out and then we had our regular regular things to do so 1st thing you do is that you that you would go to all the other people there cost them OK all you do and do the well what you want you today but what is what is is there anything like the needs and and and then the whole day that works for you ask people for food you give them the the related food if the checkerboard that diets what they need to have small salt or sugar know what arevery again depending on what what the people have and that's how it works and then you have at at 11 the ductus come and the doctors would then checkerboard medecine that would look like there's something missing the nurses were then the check about the medicine and give the people the related ones and there are a lot of examinations and investigations to be done in also marked part of my job at that time was that the results of all these investigations that was a physical file our for each and every patient there and that physical file then we used to to stick that in all the results of all the examinations investigations so like CT computed tomographic um eeks right and what sort so that's how it works and SeDuMi I'm older than most of you
will be asleep and what not that all it's evolved on 25 26 years ago the recently last year I was in a hospital once again I was fortunate that I didn't have to go hospital for more than 20 years but last year I had to go that was not in Germany was in the United States and it was not because I fell ill was simply the course reuse complain we as 2 systems would provide IT for kind of companies could be could be oil and gas companies could be automotive companies that could be also hospitals for that particular the a customer of ours is a is a is a hospital chain in the United States and the reason why they asked me to go there is there was an old which on was become
plane of this customer they said OK big escalation came even to all board members and so I had to go there and tossed what's going on there to check that we do the right things to to make sure that this will not include again and these kind of things and also to keep the customer kind of column so when there and it's in cookies I don't know of anybody has been in Albuquerque so far it's a it's a it's a New Mexico interested States very different than everything what I saw before it's it's a dessert is that very very strange environment so when they're and I was then asked by the sea and no I don't know if anybody knows what is this you know I don't know chief nursing officer so it's in German for the Germans always phystat um and she took the fried OK I will know that the guy from drum maneuvers you measure so communicational you not to so she

really hits than all of our results some other excuse I just wanna to make sure that you understand whole many areas there I I had recently the that was quite short before Christmas and and they said we are providing also network services and for the customers 1 of all the customers is dP dH going to post and I can show that that was shot before Christmas on on a late-night when I wanted to cluster school which was damaged and of course you have to of the fatal wouldn't work and that nite so usually if everything into things but it didn't work the fate or and we were finding tilt to authority in the very late at nite if we had not fixed that and we did fix that if we had not fixed that

I'm saying yeah I I know that I'm just saying not yet I'm just saying today it's already if it doesn't work we have a huge traffic jam if it doesn't work for many systems that that's today traffic jam and you will not be neglected that
today we have a big traffic jam in the future the also some short term and and we have all about that many times it would be also some very very very short term active responses and OK it might be from the knowledge might be not in 5 years but it would come up as well and I'm very sure about it and I'm just telling you take other examples they take like remote surgeries it will not work without i t you can say it's not a lot and just to sharing review future will come and the demand for more stable operations would grow for these kind of needs not saying today it would make a correction just saying they would make a traffic jam and what it does make tomorrow I'm not so sure about what you might
trigger and I'm very sceptical about it I'm very sceptical about it this is the I have a different opinion you oranges which with apples you say something which has to do with uh with the INF attainment but not the security

training education awareness uh good process used to support them systems trying to protect people from making mistakes and many many other things and we did a lot of other things you should still at the end of the day for instance the the most the most frequent would cause for all integers is that something has been changed and you might know that also from the personal environment the system will work for a long time and then you get a new film therefore you're ruder at least I
got recently and that doesn't work and you do an upgrade and for whatever reason it doesn't work anymore maybe some settings maybe some the film where what a there was a change and that change and that makes the system not working anymore I like it is in your your white you my experience and that's pretty much the same also in professional IT in the coyotes so what are we doing about it is of course we plan these kind of changes we tested up front we check if there is anything wrong still the things are done by human beings but people and they might have always seen something there might have been made a mistake and the sometimes even a simpler tied for it could be a symbol that in certain IP address which which needs to get put in there is a title for something like that and these kind of things then make a lot of trouble even though you do all kind of protection of that and and also to be to be honest sometimes also management is not fully where senior management middle management field the the explored all but I trust him and and that they don't really overload really understand the full the full size of the change in the full the full technology behind that not anymore and then these kind of things have so it's it's from management with the experts and there are a lot of a lot of and potential for for mistakes people is still effective number 1 in y all just have the 2nd 1 is processed use I mean properties like like I'm not doing most of the people Don Roo read the user's manual whether processes described halted with certain installment to do with a cop forest in all the things I saw yup there are processes for your

incident can in worst case even even even cost a lot of ideas or even become become serious so we have not enough yet my assessment and and have fun part of of this presentation I just wanna show you what would be an idea whole all to make life a bit better world a bit better and that's known not related to 2 systems and wanted to become anymore it's a proposal for something where where companies put together their ideas and and try to to make the world a bit more stable and so what what as I just shared with you that the problem there is a lot of software and if you just see here in my layers that's a typical sources of system solution like like we usually have to it's a very safe and secure you see everything is redundant everything is double but you see the world of big brands and CF usually a client whatever climb this could be PC you more why could be another client the to be
environment could be Internet interactive voice response to copy what forever you have than some some rule tourists and maybe from the internet we have here in particular a specific dedicated in uh and um wide area network and connectivity year but then you have a rule to identify what you have a load balancer given a star a a lot of stuff the components from operating system database applications offer such as SAP and what's forever and then you have the all that you have a storage area network with some science switches at that that's just a standard solution I'm sharing nothing nothing special everything is redundant the issues if you just look here there is no IBM Microsoft Knoll whoever Hawkwind provide you through the whole stake everything or even if they can but some are trying hard to do then it's still that the things are fairly independent from each other what do I mean with independent independent means you
have you have in all these things software releases like for area of this offer a useful sounds which have authorities for storage sports authorities for kind of service service offer use operating system and so on so what then if the system crashes The 1st thing what you do is when you do as well so we call the vendor right we call for instance a GUI age he will never so we call them and you know what the answer and the answer was the same like the answer you do you have the latest sulfur on your device who knows that question 9 there's ever probably most of the rights of

nobody has the latest 4 of the release so what's then what's than the point in the later so we have a you have to have it what I'm saying is we have too many to many of users is completely unacceptable level fusion every software provider every 4 weeks 3 weeks 6 weeks sometimes pages on a daily basis that doesn't work anymore it just doesn't work the course you want OK you have a question that the when the
incident light and yeah go on on so after is eating the world is kind of making you phrase now because I would I would say that's not only software also hardware eating the world and so far what I saw it's it's it's very specific it's very but unlike it and what I see it's also very superficial in a way that and that sending monthly is just a couple of weeks ago what that what was the question how we i lable reliable and sustainable the whole IT infrastructure all over the world is anyway I mean if you look at how much copper we need of cobalt all these resources we need to build this infrastructure and it is eating the world the hardware we use and everyone and there are some other problems so I you also kind of have an outlook on when do you run out of the resources for create the hardware and software I mean this is critical I think and I don't see anything about that in your presentation so far and I think this is also disastrous what is i t doing to the world right now um and I think that that's a very critical topic and I never really find any research beside the sort of Atlantic and they got it bio bio surveil research on my green piece of some and no it this not to be very frank this presentation is not about and environmental impact
of IT in total I know there's a lot of air pollution and a lot of the normative issues about it but this was this is not about that subject I'm sorry to say I'm at this point is concerned that it works In the talk or the resources
then the whole thing and it is critical also fully topic I think for the time being out of a cave and said I'm working for a company for the time being and the prices fall for all kind of fall off resources are very much at all and so obviously most of the companies don't care at that point in time that might change as soon as copper and all the other things get more expensive and I remember our vault as specific minerals and about to what 3 years ago was not long ago but the way extremely and concern about that in the oven and these kind of things but as soon as the economy has string debate and the demand is lower than uh then the than the offer the people don't care so much anymore about it so bad weather system in this this prestigious not about that so good as it might my concern is here that that these mixture of software suppliers in our suppliers everybody has and these mixture of different from their point of the releases has become extremely critical is to me the biggest threat of a stable stable working IT how to use them but yeah just to a directly to that point is saying them that's the then disconnected death cycles off the that is connected development site of practice software providers are a problem but if you were to centralize you would
also increase the time it's so found abilities would exist right that's why they are providing each and every day you cycles and security patches all kind of things and a centralized development life cycle will probably not be possible right that's what saying is that right some of my concern is every 4 weeks a new software class every week to new security patches or 3 in total if you have that kind of environment and we would have that kind of environment professional IT is not a sustainable solution it creates a lot of risk and ultimately a lot of problems and then a lot of auditors and to me that's not a
sustainable thing for the future that that's what I'm saying so all of those blog about the problem that is I wanna highlight something we are thinking of how to at least tackle the problem if you don't if you a lot of this anybody more questions about the problem the OK let me let let that let's think how we can tackle that and and we are
trying now to find sufficiently big suppliers to help us on that 1 and to join us and this is again the solid homage to something this also not his system thing it's what I call in an industry standard where where we are trying together with some others and to find as many many partners as possible to make the world a bit more stable so just showing what it means as said 1 of the critical things as the software and the deformities cycles and the frequency of these releases so what we're thinking office what if if at least we could produce and saying OK we have only maybe tool releases per year very well attested releases much less frequently like we have and then on the security fixes if there is someone of our ability and see at the very end but fall for new features on new options in the software we have only 2
releases per year and we would have banned components has as i showed here for all the things from low balance and firewall root of switches servers and operating system all kind of things where we have only 2 regular releases per year and and for that particular components and this the vendors would make sure that it works with the others so that would be a dedicated stack of your orders components and and and everybody who has that kind of of a product and his called for your he would make sure that it works with the other so you will only issue to releases per year and he would make
sure before he releases this that that gets integrated tested before so you know that from OK for instance providing a storage area network switches it works with the touchy systems and Wordsworth and HTS systems groups of EMC systems so that would work so of abused sure that has the pretest and works and is only once in the year and then just security fixes with just making sure that the vulnerabilities we get fixed so that would be 1 of the core things we wanna make different in that in that green and there is no all we have the following kind of an association non non profit association it to find it mean the ones I I listed at the bottom and have already joined that and making sure that that this cycle we're really get implemented for particular components for these high availability solutions that apart from that that that
really cited also about maturity because what you probably have seen there's a new software and let's let's just think about the latest apple upgrade probably half of you might have an iPhone I have as well and it didn't work after the pride in Mumbai mean my didn't work anymore I couldn't I could write e-mails anymore for for some reason I didn't understand and there was another fixed and then I could do it again so this kind of maturity to get proven front so what we're saying is there really should only be here if there is at least also for hardware and certain proven component after 6 months or so that it works in a sterile environment so we don't get always the newest the most stable the 3rd thing what we are
asking here is all these suppliers year they would install what we call a wreck for erect form which is not a normal hotline where you call and they say please install the latest upgrade erect phone to me hotline where needed to get access to level 3 technicians the best people from Cisco for instance who really helped me in analyzing whites no not working and they're really helping we established that was his school we have established that with OK to 1 that up please at
the time of and hence the 8 I know that it sounds tough right if I know very well that but honestly I don't believe that I need more than 2 times a year new functionality and software I
believe that and at least not for professional life I I do not believe I need more than 2 updates per year and honestly the products we give to all our customers today we do this integration were so we take all the things I listed here together and do them quite some engineering work that really works together and I would put that as 1 part from our customers that takes from test cited at East half a year sexually or customers will not have 1 infrastructure of release per year not even that so honestly for professional for critical applications which we need to run I'm fine with that young I believe in that for consumer not so critical more fancy more fashion can have an altered sh there's a different game of course question answered thanks OK so young and then security
right I mean uh there is a security issue on that 1 has also bought minimum security issues are not doing any presentation about security and didn't even touch the topic but of course it's also extremely crucial that whatever critical and systems tickets delivered needs to be secured and frequent operates on a big risk because nobody can ever test that 1 of the reasons why we have so many security patches this that this phonetic gets really tested I mean it's it's a kind of Osaka right I mean if you don't test the sulfur you would have uh missed some vulnerabilities you find later you prefixes again not tested so what I'm saying is even even after this is for them the personal devices actually would have already decided of not much more than 2 or 3 releases per year why that's impossible in the fall farther such as in that state would provide as you all vices school whomever right there would have not much more than that so yeah that's that's the the proposal year it said we are now funding that association with trying to make that life it's a voluntary thing it's an investment for the company so it needs personal personal belief all false they're related seals that that makes sense our work on that 1 is not finished
yet there is no 0 alter solution available yet but I just wanted to to to publish that that that's something we're aiming for and and hoping that this hopefully not only for 2 systems every provider can use that's all you can also use it with HP or whoever's the integrated doesn't have to be to systems of budgeting become I can can utilize that says it's an open standards and together with these partners developed or in development and that's that's what we believe is all contribution to make words a bit more stable not solving environmental issues and we chose issue the act that was pretty

so I'm not every home will be at there currently is at the same standard when it comes to to common it's a technology and it probably won't be at any time and how how how would you deal with that that they're still components in circulation who am use software or hardware components will 1 day be in court they're incompatible with newer components in yeah I mean that's an
