In the hinterland of the westerly Graciosa Bay of Ndende, a woman collects from a wild growing paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera) the layer of bast growing between the outer bark and the wood part of the trunk. She soaks this for one day in the sea and then expands the bast to the size of a cloth with a beater of hardwood. The "fabric" is then dried in the house. Finally one can see the way the women's loincloth is worn.
