| English | English Among the Azande termites are not only appreciated food, but they also play a large role in the suprasensitive conceptions of this group. To carry out the termite-oracle, two different sticks are placed in a termite-hill overnight; the oracle depends on which of the two is eaten, alone or chiefly, by the termites. During the whole procedure the consultant addresses the termites in the form of a dialogue. Among the methods of divination of the Azande the termite-oracle occupies a middle position, its efficacy is not so great as that of the poison-oracle. |
