Abstract

Two men detach bark shavings from the plants used for extracting curare and bring them wrapped in leaves to the village. There arrow tips are made from palm slivers. Hot water is poured upon the shavings in a funnel made of leaves, and liquid curare drops and collects in a half gourd. The arrow tips, hardened over the fire, are smeared several times with the curare-poison. When the water has evaporated and the poison applied to the tips has become hard, the tips are put in a bamboo quiver where they will be taken out for use and inserted in the arrow-shafts.
